Default New tune on Buchanan octave mandolin

    Hi all

I wrote and recorded this little tune over Christmas

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwh3uYVgH3w

It features the octave Buchanan, as well as my bouzouki by the same maker as the accompaniment.

    Here's the mp3:

And the three instruments I used:

Thanks for listening and I wish you all a happy and healthy 2012!

    Bill

Thanks for all your kind words - they are most encouraging for me as I have never written a tune before. It's funny, I played the first four notes of D, F#, A and E, and the rest came very quickly from there. As a new(ish) player, the little technical challenge I set myself was climbing up to the 10th fret and back without falling over.

Question - I know that this tune is in "three" timing. Does that make it a jig? Would it be classified as something else? Please excuse my ignorance, but I would really like to know!

    Thanks!

Well done, Bill. Is that really your first attempt at tune writing? Wouldn't think it... I'd say you've come up with a (fast) waltz rather than a jig - possibly even on its way to a Polska or similar.

I have had a few requests for the music/tab for this tune, so here it is, courtesy of my good friend Alan, I think this was a lot harder to write out than to play! There are a few grace notes missing, but it is pretty accurate:

I hope a few folk will enjoy playing this tune.

    Thanks, Bill

Like the tune and the playing, Bill. Nice arrangement and the instrument sounds good.
