Hello,
Just looking for mandolin enthusiasts in the Cleveland, OH area. I'm new to mandolin, but I'm looking for jams nights, or just mandolin "friendly" places around Cleveland.
Any suggestions?

Hi George,
Here are some sites that may provide some info:
Northeast Ohio Oldtime: http://www.facebook.com/groups/neooldtime/
Folk and acoustic music:http://www.folkjam.org/
bluegrass:http://www.buckeyebluegrass.com/
Hope you find something interesting! Dan
Thanks Leverman61,
It looks like there are some jam sessions listed on http://www.buckeyebluegrass.com/, however, bluegrass is really not my thing. It's a good starting point and I'll probably go to a couple of them just to get in touch with other mandolin players around here.
I appreciate your reply Leverman61.
Yes, there are very few in Cleveland...and I am one of them. I am not a bluegrass guy but I love music and always open to meet new players. Hit me up and maybe we can noodle around a bit.

I never had any luck with folkjam.org. I have posted and searched for the last 39 weeks and come up dry. This is just a tough area for mando. FYI the buckeyebluegrass.com site looks like mailware is in it. I got a big alert on that site and it shut down. I suggest not to use that site. Again, Cleveland is tough to find pickers. One of the reasons is that musicians in the area, and I play with several, do not see the mando as a versatile instrument. Therefore, in this typical rock affiliated culture, it gets the boot. I think it is our job as the mando professionals to expose the instrument in these settings and prove its worth. I have done this in a classic rock band. When I first showed up, they looked at me and my little instrument and laughed. But then I showed them what it can do. I get invited back every week now!

Yes, I have to agree as far as Cleveland area music scene goes.
I even talked to people at Guitar Center here in North Olmsted, and when you mention mandolin, they look at you weird. Oh well..., I still like it a lot, and ever since I got my mandolin about a week ago, I have not touched my guitars at all. I enjoy it and I'll keep learning and playing mandolin no matter what.
