Default "Les Paul-like" mandolin in the Classifieds

Ad here. Seller apparently doesn't know it, but this instrument is by Chris Preston of Buffalo, N.Y. Appears to be the same instrument pictured at Emando.com. Built in 1997. Kevin Schwab worked on it and darkened the pickup covers after my photo was taken.

    NFI.

    Nothing contradictory there.

For some reason I couldn't find that post using the Search tool, but I knew it existed.

This instrument was on eBay several times in 2008. Kevin Wick bought it and posted about it here; then he had Schwab do some work on it. Later Kevin sold it. (I've sold or traded three other instruments to Kevin, IIRC, two of which he currently plays.) Now it's in Waco and for sale again.

    Hi Martin; you're right.
I misread the post. I thought it said the mando had been built by and not for a local mandolin player.
    Sorry for the confusion.

No problem! Kevin's post contains all the information I have about Chris Preston, which ain't much. I just figured that in case anyone buys it via the Classifieds, they deserve to know the builder's name.

Hmmm, am I the only one that thinks it looks a little like this mandolin?

Wonder what they sound like? Both very cool. The Tele one looks like an import to me, although I've never seen one exactly like it.

The Strat thingy looks like an OM, not a mandolin. Possibly a Cassandra Elk or maybe Mike Soares.

That neck looks rather short.... body joins at 12fth fret, and the heel comes up before the 11th. Still, a nice looking mando, a good blend of Les Paul and Mandolin aesthetics.
If I was looking for another electric, I'd consider having it amongst my collection, though I already have 2 very Les Paul emandos.
Hereby & forthwith, any instrument with an odd number of strings shall be considered broken. With regard to mix levels, usually the best approach is treating the mandolin the same as a cowbell.
