Thread: "Pocket" mando on ebay

This is listed as an "8 string lute", but it appears to be a tiny flatback mando - not a true piccolo, I believe these are called pocket mandolins:

5 1/2" wide, has no bridge or strings but it's dirt-cheap right now. No financial interest on my part... just thought I'd post this as these things aren't exactly common.

I think the best deals are on mandolins listed as lutes, ukuleles, ukeleles, guitars or (in the case of a Vega I once had) mandloins...

Pklima has an excellent recommendation. I have several times found incredible deals of items (no "mandloins" yet) that were misspelled in the listings. It's always a good idea to try various spellings and misspellings to see what turns up. You'd be one of a small number to be able to bid on a rare "mandlin" or manodlin" as opposed to the real thing. Good advice, pklima.

Just a little search tip, if you use the ebay "advanced search" screen you can type in "eight strings" then check the little box that says search title AND DESCRIPTIONS. You will get exactly the info you all are talking about without having to misspel ukalaylee 14 different ways. WORKS FOR ME!
I will give up my Collings "A" when they pry it from my cold dead hands!

Yeah, "search title and description" is exactly how I found the mandloin. I like oddball instruments that are very likely to be described incorrectly (cello banjos, mandocelli etc.) I search for eight or ten strings (liuto cantabile!) pretty often.
