Very cool. Like the Boogie amp too!
Did you record the JL Smith through the amp?
Daniel
Thanks Daniel. I recorded the mando using jamvox straight into garageband. But the little guy sounds pretty awesome through the boogie!
I worked at Mesa for 9 months in 1994. Great amps. Excellent employees. Jerks in upper management. Would love to nab a .22+ somewhere!

Bumping this thread in the hopes that folks might lead me to other clips of J.L. Smith electric mandolins (especially 4 stringers).
The great clip above (post #1 from Cabbagehead on a 5-String), and the Don Julin Jazz clip on his 4-string that's linked-to in Ted E.'s JazzMando review are the ONLY clips of J.L. Smith e-mandos I can find.

Hey Ed, it's a bit different from what I'm doing now acoustically, but here's some clips of my old band that I played my 4-string J.L. Smith with. Really miss playing with these guys. The last one is a show we taped for a local PBS station, in the middle is a small acoustic set with my Weber Yellowstone.

Thanks Scott!
Just watched the first two videos, and about to settle in to watch the hour-long performance. Very much looking forward to it!
Fantastic stuff there. Sounds great! What were you playing through in the bar gig?
I also found the link to the Ghostown Phantoms' myspace on the Smith website. Looking forward to listening there as well.
Do you still own the Smith 4?
How would you rate the overall tone (especially in the treble) and playability of your Smith 4?
Oh, and if you still have it, I think your J.L Smith 4 should make an appearance in future Spearman Brewers clips. After all, it's a very short trip from what you're doing now to the electric Juke Joint Blues of R.L. Burnside & Junior Kimbrough!
Thank you again...Now back to the PBS clip.

Ed, I was using a Crate acoustic amp back then, I'm now using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I've still got the 4-stringer, it's been a bit lonely since I started back on my acoustic kick. It plays great all around. I've been trying to justify getting a 5-stringer from John, but I really don't have the need for it at the moment. I'm trying to keep the Brewers stuff pre-World War II inspired, ala no electric, but I'm sure I'll get the itch to get loud somewhere down the road.
Scott, thanks so much for the info on your rig (pun intended! ).
I look forward to hearing more from the Brewers, whether it be acoustic, pre-war inspired or electrified.
Great sound you got going there!
Oh, and that PBS performance is fantastic.
