Thread: Replacement tailpiece for DIY Mandocaster - any suggestions?

Default Replacement tailpiece for DIY Mandocaster - any suggestions?

So the kit tailpiece was a piece of crap, but I reckoned that already. Wondering if there is an interesting alternative, maybe a bridge/tailpiece like is on the Goldtone. Otherwise, I guess I could simply grab a nickel Allparts tailpiece and put it on as long as the distance between the tailpiece and the bridge wasn't too far (just a tad further from where the original tailpiece). Any ideas?

    What`s the string spacing?
Generic Strat style saddles tend to be a shade under 11mm (so quite narrow)!

Measurements of unit pictured above: bridge itself measures 2 3/16" x 1 1/2". String spacing is 13/32".
From first to last string is 1 1/4". Will it work?

I'm not sure what you're asking, but if I were to replace the wood tailpiece then I'd make either a TOM stop tailpiece or get a piece of aluminum with a 90 degree angle and cut it to length, round the corners, drill four holes and polish it. The downside is having to refinish the gold top. Is the break angle of the strings off the bridge very good? That will cause buzzing.
