I checked with the soon-to-be owner of this mandola, and though he hasn't seen it yet he agreed that it was OK to show it to the world first. The color was requested by the customer, and he even supplied the leather dye that I used.

Beautiful work!
And I have to say, your customer has great taste. I love that color! It has an incredibly classy 'violin' look about it.
Excellent.

Man that is gorgeous. Congrats to Mr. Gardinsky for his new toy and to Mr. Hamlett for the "skills to pay the bills!" Amazing.
Que c'est manifique!
The mandola is beautiful. Truly artfully crafted by capable and experienced hands. But right now i'm tired and that chair in the first set of pictures looks awesome.

Looks extremely playable... :D
We all know how nice "Hamlett Manor" is, after all...
I didn't really know what the instrument would looks like with the dye that I used, but when I saw the results under the varnish, the look made me think of old, elegant woodwork in someplace like a Victorian mansion, so I sought out a place to shoot some pics. If I remember correctly Jamie, you have a bit of a Lynchburg connection(?). Some of those pictures were taken at the Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast in Lynchburg Va. The owners, Mike and Kathy, graciously allowed me to take some snap shots in their home. They have done much of the work of restoring the elegant mansion, and it's a beautiful place!

Very classy! I still remember how much I liked the sound of that one flat-top mandola you made... too bad we can't all hear this one in person.
John, thanks for the details on the location of the shoot. I was born and raised in Lynchburg and have been back from time to time. WRT the photos settings, I really appreciated seing the mandola in context of a home. I've often seen photos of very nice looking instruments with plain backgrounds and I get it from a sales point of view. In this case, you weren't selling the mandolin so much as celebrating it, if that makes sense to others...
Great photography (and building), John.
