Default Thile and Daves duo playing again in NYC

Just announced: Chris Thile and Michael Daves doing a rare duo show in NYC, Sunday October 24, 2010. These guys are about the best around when it comes to combining heartfelt 'brother duet' material, with casual virtuosity. Tickets are cheap. It's a small room. Not to be missed.

    details HERE.

Hmmm. Rockwood Music Hall. You'll have to scroll down to October 24 on your own!

Just a bump to remind folks that Misters Thile and Daves are playing a rare duo show here in NYC this weekend. If you love the great brother duets, and you play the mandolin, and you live within a hundred miles of here, and you've never caught these two... well, fix that now!

It was another great show, with lots of new material and hot picking. Those boys really get their money's worth out of a fret job. New truism for Thile: "There's no money to be made above the first 22 frets... ".

Chris played the Loar, Michael, his 1960 D-18. New songs included Monroe's, First Whippoorwill, and The One I Love is Gone - and the Louvins', Hoping that your Hoping. Among the fiddle tunes Tennessee Blues is becoming a favorite of mine. And the gospel number, Man in the Middle got a huge response from the packed house.

They are my favorite performers in this sort of music right now. No one I'd rather see at the moment. Still getting better.

I was at the show also and thought it was wonderful.

Any idea what that insturmental was that Chris started really quitely as the second to last song of the second set? I'm not familiar with his repetoire and it was absolutely lovely.

    Thanks

Are you thinking of Ookpik Waltz? It's a nice fiddle tune, and you can find many recordings and tab out there.

Here'e a previous thread here on the Cafe.

Lovely tune, that I think I heard first played by David Bromberg?
