Thread: My new mandobird - video

I thought I'd show off my new toy. It's a nice bit of kit but I'm definitely changing the pickup, the E string is much too quiet without some kind of enhancement.
Here it is, a quick jam on a Pink Floyd type of tune. The intro is a slow build up but it does get going - honest.

It's played here through a little Marshall 15W amp and an old zoom sound effect.

    Darren,

It looks as though you have a wonderful icon corner there.

Thanks for the comments chaps. And mandodue, only just saw your post, that's just the bedroom, our real icon corner has more of a presence about it.
Still haven't got around to fitting a new pickup yet, read somewhere you had to remove more than the original pickup which scared me off.

    It`s easy - don`t be scared!
A bit of soldering is the hardest part. The pickup is held down with 2 screws with a lump of foam on the bottom to act as a spring.
The scratchplate and the control cavity backplate also need removing - you`ll see where the wires go then. It`s much easier to actually remove the volume knob, withdraw the volume pot from the rear and then do the work rather than trying to poke a soldering iron into a small cavity (if you`ve not had the back off, have a look at the photo in the right hand column http://www.almuse.co.uk/mandolin_pic...andobird4.html and you`ll see what I mean)!
    Cheers

Thanks for that, I think I'm reassured enough to go for it. I get paid on the 28th - new pickup it is.

Oooh.... and another thought - carefully stuff an old duster around the wires and into the cavity leaving plenty of overlap onto the body (probably more sensible ways to do it but it serves me).
Don`t want an accidental drip of solder hitting the finish!
    Cheers

Cheers Pete, I've just ordered the new pickup.
I would like to stick a video up on youtube showing the before and after (providing the camera picks up the effect) would that be alright with you?
