    Default It is Well (Elisha's Song) by the Isaacs

    I introduced this song to a lady friend at church that has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard and her response was "let's do it with just mandolin".
    I have been playing a few years, but that struck fear in me.

    I can't seem to figure out the chord progression in the song. It sounds like it starts in the key of D and then modulates to E, but I can't hear the chords (especially in the chorus). Could anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Steve B.

    That's not a real easy one to get by ear. I listened but it would take me probably hours. Good luck.

    It Is Well with My Soul

    C Dm G7 C
    When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    Am D G7
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
    C F Dm G7
    Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
    C G7 C
    It is well, it is well, with my soul.

    Chorus:
    C G7
    It is well (it is well),
    C
    With my soul (with my soul)
    F C G7 C
    It is well, it is well, with my soul.

    Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
    Let this blest assurance control,
    That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
    And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

    Chorus

    My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
    My sin, not in part but the whole,
    Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

    Chorus

    For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
    If Jordan above me shall roll,
    No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
    Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

    Chorus

    But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
    The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
    Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
    Blessed hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

    Chorus

    And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
    The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
    Even so, it is well with my soul.

    Chorus

    thanks guys, I got a little further, but the chorus is still giving me trouble. There is a video of them doing this song that I found on YouTube, but I can't see Sonya Isaacs hands on her mandolin during the chorus. I can see she is using bar chords for the B and A when she starts singing (modulates to E for her part), but that is all I can see.

    If I get it worked out I will post it here.

    I've got the first verse and part of the chorus worked out; they are both in D. I believe there's some funky chord in it on "death" in the chorus and I can't figure out what it is. A minor, a 7th, a flat... something. I think it's a G note, but I can't figure out the chord. I'll keep at it!

    The intro (when the fiddle is playing) the progression is F A D F A D G. The verse is D G D A G|D, D G D A|G D (the | between chords indicates a quick change).

    The chorus is still evading me, but the "death" part is the F chord and then it walks up to a C chord but there is something in between I can't hear. I think I let the vocal get in the way, my brain can't Not hear those word and beautiful harmony.

    Hmmm, tried an F on "death" and it didn't sound right to me... but I got the same thing as you for the verse. I'll have to revisit it tomorrow when it's not so late!

    I play the F as 233x. If you were playing F in a different way, see how it sound with this inversion.

    I attached a text file of what I have so far (didn't include the modulation to E).

    Just thought I would check in and see if anyone had tried out the chords I had posted to see if they were correct. There is still the one section that I can't seem to hear the chords (as notated, or not notated in the attached text).
