    Default Cases for electric mandolin

I can't find a thread on this, so I thought I would start one. There are a few questions on the new Fender thread about cases, and I know that finding one that fits properly for many emandos is next to impossible.

I have two emandos that need better cases. One is a mandobird, and the other is a custom that I am guessing is similar in size to a Kentucky. I see a Mandobird in the classifieds with a hardshell, and the owner told me that it one one of a small run of OEMs that were built wrong for acoustic mandolins.

Seems to me it might be worthwhile for a case manufacturer to build a basic rectangular case, sort of like the generic rectangular guitar cases but smaller.

    Comments?

I've read on the forum that the Access Stage Three case will fit the Mandobird. I haven't yet tried it but it's on my list to buy. http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/AMCS3.htm

Yes, the Access case is probably the best bet right now, until somebody comes up with something better.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that case is about twice the price of a generic electric guitar case I was thinking of in the original post. I poked around a bit to see if I could find a case for a mini guitar, but they are also hard to come by.

Considering the mandobird cost ration to a hardcase cost I got a coffin gig-bag for mine - originally intended for a Guitar Hero I think.

Exactly. I think $150 is too much given the value of the instrument. Rectangular guitar cases can be had for $80 or even less, a price point which makes more sense from a $MB:$HSC perspective. My 5 string is shaped sort of like a mini Les Paul, and for that one I found a really nice ukulele case that fits.

Mandobird value:case value of about 1:1

With the uke craze that seems to be on, I think I can find something cheaper. In the mean time I have a pretty good padded soft case by Levy's.

An older post indicated that an Epiphone ED50 Mandolin Case would work for the Mandobirds, although you will have to redesign the interior a bit. They run about $79 at Guitar Center.

I have a Fender hardshell case like this:

It strikes me as being more like a violin case than guitar or mandolin. Maybe there's something in the violin or uke line that will fit?

If you get a chance, please try a Mandobird in your case and let us know if it fits. The make is even perfect as is the price point.

I don't have a Mandobird and don't know anybody you does. You could probaly put it in and add some foam to make a tight fit.
