Just got a Festival-F Flatiron from Dallas Music, with the serial number #00221010. I searched the archives for how to make sense of the number, but couldn't find help.

Is anyone able to decipher this for me? The sticker says Nashville, so I guess it is a later post-Montana model.

    Thanks, dave

These are very nice mandos - same as an F5-G!

thanks for the help, "Pick.." - I'da never figured THAT out! This beauty is so clean that I've got a kleenex under my right forearm, and my left thumb, and saran wrap over the tailpiece.....just don't want to smudge it up!

    Thanks, dave

Dave- Try cutting off an old tube sock so you have a 6-7" section and wear it on your right forearm. Keeps the smudges off the top and tailpiece. No need for the kleenex and saran wrap

A friend of mine inherited a Flatiron Model number 1N
    The serial number is 83072279
    Made in Bozeman, Montana

When was it built. Is it considered a decent mandolin?

I believe that the numbering system for the 1-N is the same as other Flatiron models. The first two digits are the year followed by the month and day. The final digits indicate where the Mando placed in the production run for that day. Your friend's mandolin, therefore, would have been made on July 22, 1983. Hope that helps.

I think somewhere in the late '90s (in the move to Nashville?) Flatiron changed to the Gibson's new numbering system, as shown in the OP. Pre-Gibson Flatirons had the year of manufacture in the first two digits.

October 01, 2001 and the first one finished/labeled that day. That is towards the end of the production in Nashville.

    I have February 02, 2001

They can be very good and if you get a good one I think they are a bargain.
