Hi there. I have a few Rick 5002's. Is anyone here into them? Cheers, J

They're cool, but I don't know anyone else who has three of them.

I got one of the few blueburst ones, waited over 4 years for it. Too bad I have absolutly no need for an electric mandolin. It's fun to play with at home. I love the neck and the looks. It sounds like a little guitar to me though.

They're cool, but until this thread I didn't know anyone who had even one.

BTW, between Jason and MrTidy, you guys have two of my favorite colors I've seen them in: Jetglo & Blueburst -- the only one missing is the one in the below pic called Desert Gold, although it looks blue in this pic.

Sea Green, Monty Brown, and Burgundy would be cool too, if they even exist.

I put a video on youtube of the AFG 5002. My username is jhitviews if you want to check it out. Sorry my playing is not very good. I don't play well sitting down. I almost always play standing.

Sunburst would be extremely redundant but cool. Of course if I were in charge they'd all be red or violin burst with a choice of an ebony or leather pickguard :P

Now see, those are cool and all, but I want to see one that looks like a mini 4001 bass.

My dream instrument would be an electric bouzouki made to look like a 360 with the horns sheared off but everything else - soundhole, headstock, pickguard, toasters, etc - the same. A combination of a Rick and a neo-traditional teardrop zouk.

I've owned a 330 and a 660/12. GREAT guitars. But I never play rock, only Irish, so I ended up selling them

Wooo hooo -- make it happen Crazy! (And if either Chris Squire or Geddy Lee branched out into mandolin as did JPJ, I'll bet they would dig one of them as well. )

Actually Geddy has gone mando, come to think of it, or one of the guys anyhow. Just lettin ya know I'm very much an amateur, but I'll try my best. Going to try an SG Junior style mando, and then I shall work on the Ric. The first Ric will be mine, but if it ends up looking good enough to sell to where I could sleep at night I will put it up for sale, probably around the 500-750 mark.

It will be black with white binding, neck through body, (duhr) Ric style pickguard with half a P Bass at the neck and a firebird pickup at the bridge to kinda make it look like the pickup cover, dot inlays (sorry), and an Andrew Jerman bridge because they are excellent............and chromy. It will also have four knobs (same kind) and four waverly style tuners similar to the Rics as well. Should look accurate if I do a decent job. It will be a bit pudgy looking because the knobs and stuff will look huge, but then again it is a "baby Ric" isn't it?

    SHOULD BE FUN!

Sounds like great fun, but I encourage you to try the triangle inlays.

Aha, just realized that if this is to be a regular scale mandolin, I would need to replace the bridge pickup with an actual bridge because the space between the fingerboard and the bridge is way too small for two pickups. Oh well, I can pull of a two pickup octave though. Unless I am directly answering a question, this is most likely the last post I will be doing here.

    Go 5002s!

CM - I hope you're not feeling guilty about so-called thread hijack. Over on RRF where I moderate it happens constantly and is often useful and fun. So no worries, dude!

How about just using one Rick toaster? If it's already tRicked out... plus, FYI the 5002 bridge is just a Rick 12-saddle 12-string bridge. It is configured with four "double saddles" from their 6-saddle 12-string bridge. The four "double saddles" are placed in holes 2, 5, 8, and 11 of the 12-saddle bridge.

I'm going to stick with my current configuration thanks, but I think an octave would look even more accurate. Like I said, it won't happen for a few months, maybe by fall, but I'll get this going, it is my livelyhood after all.

Hmmm...How about a 300 series mini-clone with a Rick toaster, and separate bridge and tail-piece like a Rick 12-string guitar. You'd then be able to get that Roger-McGuinn-with-a-capo tone that the 5002 is capable of, but with a visual aesthetic more consistent with the more famous Rick 12-string models.

Cool idea, but the R tailpiece is, like, half the size of a 5002... it might be tricky!!!
