    Hi! I have
    (1) a Kalamazoo KM-11 flat top mandolin, and
    (2) a K&K Big Shot pickup

and I'd really appreciate any advice/tips/counselling on where to place the pickup to get the best* all around amplified sound.

*By "best" I guess I mean (a) audible in a crowded bar and (b) recognizably musical.

Contact pickups hear what they are attached to, and
different parts of the sound-board/top of the mando have different sounds, so what sounds best to you?
generally, right near the bridge works OK.
your ears will tell you whether the bass or treble foot ends sounds best.

if the place is loud , in ear monitors help.
