Hope no one minds the cross-posting...

Emando.com will have a sales table at the Gear and Guitar Bazaar on the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Wash., this weekend. I'll be there for sure on Saturday; don't know about Sunday yet. Selling some secondhand electric mandolins (Gibson Florentines, Fenders, Rigels, and a Godin) and a Skip Kelley F5, and may bring along some pieces from the collection for display. Will also have CDs, strings, T-shirts.

Used to run the Rigel booth at Wintergrass, but this will be the first time I'm completely on my own. And I might be the only mandolin seller at the whole shindig, unless Steve Krigbaum shows up. We'll see. Come say howdy if you're nearby.

I'm curious, how was the reaction? Did you have Maestro Alex running on repeat on the boombox to prove the point?

Well, what if you gave a guitar show and no one came? I don't mean to criticize my pals who put on the event -- and I'm sure they'll do better next year -- but attendance was pretty light. I forgot to bring a boombox -- would've been a good idea -- but I did sell one of Alex's CDs anyway. Unfortunately, that's about all I sold. Here's what I had on display:

    Rigel S100
    Rigel Classic S
    Gibson 1965 EM200
    Gibson 1961 EM200
    Godin A8
    Fender FM-60E
    Fender FM-61SE
    Skip Kelley F5
    St. George

Then I brought the following just for show & tell:

    Fender FM-984
    National Silvo
    Bacorn Les Paul 5-string
    Yanuziello 8-string

It was a pretty cool display if I do say so myself. I may try again at the Seattle-Tacoma Guitar show in September. That has been going on for years and is better attended, or so I hear.

I didn't go back for the second day of Gear & Guitar. I had spent a whole day away from the wife & kid and didn't have much to show for it.

Sorry to hear it was a bust, but it does sound like a cool booth. At least it sounds like the booth I'd be hanging out at

A couple of dudes came by and snapped photos, and I was kicking myself for not bringing my digital camera. Then I got home and unpacked my laptop, and my camera was in the laptop bag. So I kicked myself again.

The other thing I forgot was a tuner, which is kind of a necessity anytime you want to sell a bunch of mandolins.

None. I gave a shirt to DeDe Krigbaum for watching my booth while I taught a workshop.

Wait, let me get this right. No real people!?! No real sales!?! No booth photos to show the cool emandos!?! Yep, sounds like a guitar show post on mandolin web site to me:laugh:

I'll do better next time. I learned from this. It's helped to make me the person I am today.

They can't all be winners! Gotta play the smaller venues on your way to Carnegie! You never know who took notice at that show. Could take e-mando mainstream! OK maybe not but you never know the impact you may have made sometimes. Kudos for taking the time to raise awareness!

I've sold a couple of 5-strings since I did the show. Neither buyer had come to the show, but still, those sales take a bit of the sting out.
