A few days ago, Andrew sent out this letter to his current customers:

To all, I wanted to notify all my current customers that this past Friday we
were caught in a flood. We had about three hours notice which gave us time
to salvage as much as we could from our home and shop. As far as I can
tell, I have not lost any instruments but most of my molds, equipment and
raw lumber were lost. I was in my shop today, we have pumped about four of
the six feet of water out, but it continues to come in. We are guessing we
will maintain a height of about two feet for the next couple days.

As far as I can tell, I have everyone's instruments. I was planning on
shipping about four this week but I will have to put that off for a little
while. I have very limited email access as we have no power. I will try
and update everyone in a bout a week as to where I am at and how we want to
    move forward.

He has posted a couple of heartbreaking pictures on his website:

I'm lucky in that I received my Jerman before all of this befell him. I can assure everyone that their instruments will be well worth waiting for. Please join me in sending Andrew our best wishes at this difficult time.

    Paul,

Thank you for posting this, Andrew is a friend of mine.
After hearing on the news, about the flooding in his town,
I tried to call him. The phone rang a few times and then
went to static. My heart sank when I realized the flood
must have reached his home. Sad, sad news indeed.

Andrew, best of luck to you and your family.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the kind words and the emails of support and offers of assistance.. We moved back into the house Monday and I actually started putting stuff back into the shop. Its going to be sometime before we get back to normal but I am hoping to get back to building in a couple weeks. I have several mandos that are done and just need setup, so I hope to get some long awaited instruments to their new homes in the next week.

luthier david flammang has also been wiped out by the flooding in Iowa. #his shop had four feet of water, but his house and his family are fine. #he did get all the instruments and his wood out in time, but for someone who makes his living building guitars it is devastating. #my heart goes out to all who are affected by this. i know that the iowans are still waiting to hear it the government is going to finance a relief effort.

Has anyone heard from Andrew recently?
We had negotiated a barter involving one of my Bluegrass mandos for 2 of his hand made Emando's.
This has been an ongoing discussion for about the past 9 months.
I have not heard from him since August.

Does anyone have a clue what's up with Andrew?
    Another Flood perhaps?

    Ted,
I am here. I have been traveling quite a bit. I am guessing that there is some strange void between us. I sent you a couple emails and a PM last week. I checked my junk mail and didn't see anything from you. I had a problem awhile back getting emails from someone that sent them on a phone or hand held. Anyone else have that problem? Anyhow, I am sending you another email and we'll see if we can get together.

Andrew - Sorry to hear of your misfortune and of course your neighbors as well. Glad to hear that you are ok. I've appreciated advice you've posted hear, and admired your instruments for quite a while. Hope all is well soon for everyone affected by this season's very wet weather.
