Would someone please start a new topic? Has anyone heard the Buckhannon Bros. CD? What do you think about it? There, I did it.
    Keep it acoustic.

Great topic! That is both my favorite old-time CD and my favorite mando CD, period. Curtis B. is the greatest old-time and ragtime mando player around, IMHO. BTW, when I mentioned Curtis to Mike Compton at his workshop, Mike spontaneously gave a similar opinion. Curtis and his brother Dennis are also two of the nicest and funniest guys you will ever meet and they put on a great show.

I have also enjoyed Curtis' work with the Ill-Mo Boys and have all three of thier albums (two were only issued on cassette tape, years ago, and are out of print). Thier "Timely Old Time Tunes..." album inspired me to attend a Curtis B. workshop about this time last year. Later I started taking lessons from him and he has been my instructor since late summer. I even got invited to perform on a mando-duet with the B. Bros. on "The First Noel" at a Christmas concert they did. I have another lesson tonite! Yea!

BTW, the B. Bros. have a website now:

If you want to know how we play old time string band music in West Virginia (or try to), check out the Bing Brothers.

No financial interest, don't even know the guys, but have seen them play live, and their albums are really cool!

Funny you should mention that. I made that suggestion (subject to Scott T's approval, of course) to Curtis some time ago and he said he would think about. I think I will bring it up again tonight.

Tell him I think he's afraid he might sell some of those CD's and get into a higher tax bracket, have to start making quarterly tax payments, etc.!

I will. He'll get a laugh out of it. Thier CDs sell fairly well, BTW. He told me they just got an order from Israel! He is thinking about doing a new CD. I hope that happens. He has some killer tunes he has never recorded. I think the second CD could easily be even better than the first.

I'm the person in Israel that ordered the tape. And I gota say it's great. Been playin it all the time and it has really got me interested in getting and playing more old time music. I also thought it was very good of them to go to the trouble of sending it here. Great people to deal with.
