I have a friend that has what I believe to be a 50's Rickenbacker electric mando that he is going to sell. I could not find many of these on the net - only a few reproductions from the 90's. Does anyone know of sales or value ranges for these?

    Many thanks for any info.

The previous posting is obviously a joke.

i'm sorry to kid. i looked in the vintage pricing guide for you - but no luck in there. only thing i could find other than the ebay thing above, was another one on a classifieds in the UK asking 2000 pounds. maybe try contacting retrofret, elderly or mandolin brothers.

That one is the later reissue from 1994. If your friend's is an original one from the 1950's I would say it was pretty rare esp in good playable condition. I would say tho that most mandolin players, even players of electrics, would prob go for other mandolin whereas this would be more of interest to a Rick collector.

I would also check this Rick Forum. It looks pretty active. And another forum sponsored by Rickenbacker.

Never saw this post until now.

There were nine factory orders for Rickenbacker mandolins between 1958 and 1965. If your friend has one, "rare" is a bit of an understatement. $5K-10K, I would think.

Is there a photo? I'd like to see it.

Does it have 4 strings (model 5000), 5 strings (model 5001), or 8 strings (model 5002)?
