Thanks. There's more emando on the album (not posted to myspace yet). I also play the lead guitar parts. If you're in or around Austin, TX check us out. (Actually, we're gigging tonight!).

In answer to a question, the Rono is running through a Nebula phase shifter (that "wah" type sound) and into a '64 Princeton 6G2 (black top white knobs= brown sound) with a Tony Tubby ceramic hemp cone speaker.

Which model did you get? Do you have a picture of it you can post?

    Here's the Rono:

Its got 3 pickups (S/H/S), each controlled by a mini-toggle on/off switch, master volume and master tone (tone is a push/pull pot that splits the coils on the middle pick-up. It has an ebony fingerboard with a vine inlay and a single star on the 3rd fret; star and crescent moon on headstock.

You know, it's really a shame that ol' Ron flaked out and went and got himself into such trouble.

Every instrument I've seen of his is a beauty, and they all sound great!

Nice recordings... I see that one of you counts The Edge as an influence. Cool! He's definitely a big one of mine, too, and I can hear a little bit of it in the music.

What is the story behind Rono? I don't see this builder in the eye candy section.

Clem, did you install the Tone Tubby speaker? Can you comment on how it changed the sound? How about a full shot of the Rono so I can get a look at the headstock?

Yeah, what happened to Rono? I noticed he wasn't on the Mandolin cafe eyecandy, but he is over at emando.com.

Is the mando a semi-hollow? It looks like there is something in the f-holes...

More information than you maybe wanted in this thread. #I agree with KC, it seems a shame.

Wow, that is a shame! Thanks for the link. Looks like he was an artist and not a business man. I think it is difficult to be both. Judging by Clem's ride, he built a real nice product!

Question Re: Finally, a recording with my rono....

solid stuff clem! assuming instrumentation is mando/guitar/bass/drums??i also play a rono and have been trying to find some decent tone with it.

i'm pretty new to the electric world and seem to be struggling to find a solid tone. i'm currently playing through a Boss GT-6 multi-effects --> a fender Champ 25 (not that great of an amp, but seems like it could do the trick with the right effects).

my rono has dual EMGs and it rips when i'm playing through most distortion patches, but i struggle while messing around on the cleaner side. my buddy recommended a tube screamer, but i was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.

also, be it a guitar processor, the GT-6 seems to struggle picking up my high notes. Maybe 9th fret and beyond on the E string.

Thanks!!! and sorry for the threadjack

    Firetag:

    Thanks for the kind words.

If you need a clean boost, I would definitely avoid a Tube Sceamer and go for something like the ZVEX SHO or Creation Audio Labs Mark 4.23. There are many others, as well. Maybve check out some post on the GearPage (gearpage.net)

I don't have EMGs but can't imagine why you're having problems on the high string. Seems like others have posted about his issue (and talked about going to a thicker string??).

    Good luck

I'd be interested in trading audio files with other RonO players to hear what yinz guys are up to. At the same time, I'd be willing to send you files of what I'm doing.

I recently picked up a Blue, solid body Rono from a gentleman in Texas, to complement my semi-hollow body, Homer. Who out there is strummin' a solid and who is holdin' a hollow?
