A good friend of mine inherited this mandolin from his father. It is a Sho Bud Electric mandolin made in 1982 by Shot Jackson in Nashville, Tennessee. My friend does not play at all and we really do not know what he has.
He (we) are looking for information on these mandolins (common, uncommon, how many made, value, etc.).
It is in outstanding condition for a 25 year old mandolin and all electronics work properly. It has been stored in it's case for several years.
Thanks for your help.

Sho-Bud is a big name in pedal steel guitars. They also made acoustic guitars. Linked is a page about the history of Sho-Bud. It mentions the electric mandolin about halfway down.
In 12 years of collecting all the electric mandolin lore I possibly can, this is the first Sho-Bud I have seen. So I'm comfortable saying it is very rare. Maybe not unique, since the plate says it was made by Shot Jackson and the Web page suggests that Ira Louvin also made at least one e-mando when he worked at Sho-Bud. But certainly very rare. Jackson once rewound the pickup on Johnny Gimble's electrified Gibson A-50, but I didn't know he had ever built an e-mando himself. I'd guess it's worth at least $1,5002,000, possibly significantly more if there are a lot of Sho-Bud collectors out there. You'd want George Gruhn to take a look at it.
Hal, is your friend's father the Mr. Hornbuckle the instrument was built for?
Emando.com: More than you wanted to know about electric mandolins.
Yes...The mandolin was made for Mr. Hornbuckle. Wes Hornbuckle his son has it now. He does not play at all and new I did from seeing me play at church so he asked me to see if I could find out anything about it. The link above was great and Wes said that he feels pretty sure that this mandolin was made by Mr. Jackson just before his stroke...might be the last one he made.
Thanks for you input.
