I really really really don't need another mando, but I've just spotted this beautiful funky electric mandolin on Paul Shippey's website, and I want one!
Hmm, Christmas next year perhaps... #

I looked at the site ,
wonder about the described pickup
it would appear, like the Schertler Bluestick a pickup
in that type , the electaret condenser transducer,
as it's requiring that type of installation, Under a guitar like insert.
the insert strip's thickness, for mandolins, may not allow sufficient offset to intonate some string combinations.
(see prior discussion of Brekke bridges , that is also a narrow strip on the top)
A semi acoustic electric, workmanship looks good, but, again,
wonder where the adjust ability is? neither neck or bridge seem to have any.
(UK consistently damp weather may allow for that)
said other pickups are options , and dual source with, say,one of Kent Armstrong's mini humbuckers ...

Interesting comments, thanks Mandroid. I'm a very non-techy person, so it sounds as if I'd need to do some research into the more technical aspects of electric instruments before I get too attached to the idea!

That particular transducer needs that kind of installation.
with a fixed height bridge the wire for the Pickup would need be considered with typical adjustment.
[a wood veneer shim under to raise , and sanding some off, to lower]
though a transducer mounted under the soundboard would simplify that.
Schertler (for example) in addition to the strip undersaddle Bluestick,
offers another electaret condenser type the'Basik'
and the Dynamic mech c dyn s
both of those are soundboard pickups for internal permanent installation.

Sure a looker though...
