Although, I can tell you from experience that they like experiments here.
Well, in fact, that's what this whole thread is about. Expirementing. While I originally started it with a solid body example in mind, I'm also working on an honest carved electric accoustic one as well. Planning on about a 15 inch scale, and have both plates glued up and cut out for it already. I had some nice quilted big leaf and bear claw sitka left over from an earlier F4, and decided to try something a bit different. Still in the "what if" stage of how to go about some details before I get any more of the carving done. Since the pickups will actually cut through the soundboard, I've got some thickness issues to decide on before I commit myself on the finished plates, but here's roughly what I have going on so far. I think I'll end up with parallel tone bars running straight foreward and back, just outside the edges of the pickups.

That's true, but I don't see how to get a longer scale, plus moving the bridge foreward to the "marks" you speak of, plus cutting through the soundboard in two places for the pickups where the most strain is concentrated can be done. To my way of thinking, there would simply be no structural integrity left in the soundboard. Same way with moving the rear pickup closer to the bridge like is normal by cutting through the board. It simply would collapse in short order, it seems.
If the pickups were simply bolted on top, there would be no problem.
(but and however, other's thoughts is why I posted this. )
