That invisible whammy bar works pretty good!
Pretty cool. I assume he's "bending" the strings behind the bridge with his wrist to get the whammy bar effect. I think Niles talked about doing this beyond the nut.
silly
in a good way.
OK, anyone else annoyed when the camera cuts back to the guitar player??
I'm mostly just annoyed that a lot of the time the mandolin seemed to be completely off from the guitarist's part.
It was like a guitarist shredder who can't figure out that the rest of the band has gone on past the solo and into the last verse.

. . . I sensed a few notes that were slightly lower than I would have liked them, personally . . . particularly the A and E strings.

Im a little embarassed for that guy...if you are gonna do all the gimmicky stuff, at least do it well and in time with the other players......probably thought of as a great player by some, but get some style! fast aint everything.........the invisible whammy is unique, but I would probably crush a hollow instrument...maybe Ill try it on my mando-bird and become a superstar too.....
I thought he was kind of fun personally. I guess I just don't take this stuff too seriously.

Well, the thing is that the two guys in the video seem to be taking it really, really seriously.Originally Posted by (FlawLaw @ Jan. 09 2007, 22:32)
I dunno. I know it was posted as sort of a goofy thing to check out, but I just saw a couple guys (or at least one) who thought way too much of themselves as musicians, relative to their actual talents/taste. And that sort of thing just gets under my skin a bit.
Am I taking this too seriously? Maybe.

Nah, flashy tastelessness is a big musical sin
regardless of instrument.
I have recordings of myself sounding similar--
winging it to a rhythm track--on a new electric mandolin,
not knowing a damn thing about playing electric blues.
No one gets to hear them though.
