I just saw Alan Bibey for the first time last night at the Pickin' in the Pasture festival in Lodi, NY. My first reactio was to smash my instruments and take up sheep farming. My second was to try to pick up some of his technique and taste.

I bought his "In the Blue Room" solo CD from him. He told me about an AcuTab instructional DVD, which he didn't have with him. I looked it up at AcuTab -- $35. Does any café member have this? Have you used it? What is its quality, how useful is it for the advanced intermediate player? I do know it has lots of the songs from the CD.

Thanks for your feedback; if it's positive I will order the DVD from AcuTab.

I have it, it's a great DVD. I'm too lazy to work out anything from it, so I'd sell it to you if you want. How about $25, and I'll pay shipping?

I have the Alan Bibey DVD, along with the Wayne Benson and also the Herschel Sizemore DVD's. I learned a good bit from the Alan Bibey DVD, but for my money the Herschel Sizemore DVD is the best of the three, for production, tunes, playing and info. But I'm a big Herschel Sizemore fan, you may not be. Worth looking into.

I had alot of fun doing that Bibey Dvd. It was the second one i did.(The first one i did was Mandolin primer by Burt Casey) It took me 6 months to get thru it, but it was worth it. It will give you a workout Does anyone know if acutab is still in business? I emailed them and they never responded

I have the Bibey Video, it's pretty cool. #My favorite is "Knee Deep In Bluegrass", I learned some cool B licks from that one.
Wild Fiddlers Rag is awesome... I learned the first section and then gave up. #I guess I don't have the patience.
I enjoyed the video.. but like a lot of videos, it's not a replacement for learning how to improvise over different chord changes. #It is good if you want to learn note for note some of Alan Bibeys works. #Oh yeah, and you get to hear it played mostly on a Loar and a little on a Flatbush (whatever happend to those?).

I don't know your skill level but when I attended Kauffman Kamp this year I asked around about various dvd's and was told by people who owned several that Alan Biby's was interm/adv and was pretty difficult. I chose a butch baldasari dvd and have used it some. I personally don't get as much out of dvd's as I do from instructional cd's used w/ transkriber.
