My son plays GREAT mandolin and has a good accoustic, but he's looking for a solid body electric to add to his collection of instruments. Does anyone know where he can get a good one or of someone who might build him one? If you have any info, could you please e-mail BEN at the following address?

    ben_michael@msn.com

Also urge him (like I did) to register on the Cafe! Thanks for the help. Levi

You will find lots of possibilities in the eye candy section and in the 4 & 5 string electric section of our very own cafe. #If thats not enough check out:emando.com

I read somewhere that there's a guy that makes Bigsby-style mandolin replicas ..I always liked the one Tiny Moore played

Hi Uncle Levi ... let me know some parameters and I'll give you a shortlist. 4, 5, or 8 strings? Solid? Semi-hollow? What kind of music? Style and looks? Any "electric heroes" to emulate? And, how much money are we talking about spending?

Emando.com, I must admit, is designed more for hours of browsing than for quick decision-making. But I can suggest some things if you'll give me those parameters.

The Bigsby replicas were made by Jay Roberts of Yuba City, California. I think production stopped on those in the early '80s. If there's anyone else making Bigsby copies, I'd sure like to know about it. There would probably be something of a market for them ...

I can recommend Dave Wendlers electric mandolins.
I play the 8 string model and am very happy with it.

I played a Mandoblaster from Elderly Instruments professionally for years. I had the 5 string model and coverted it using a Roland Synth so I rarely used the internal electronics.

Great bang for the buck, plays well, takes a beating and and take the case with it. Go with the 5 string version as well.
