    Hey All,

Earlier I posted about Open Road in Edmonton an no one responded. Either no one ever heard of them or... I was wondering what people here thought of Caleb Roberts as a mando player and if anyone knew what kind of mando he plays. As a band they are great.

Oh an it was 51 deg F below zero last night (not counting the wind) an I was outside successfully unfreezing a pipe. Leads to the kinda morning where you need a little Whiskey Before Breakfast eh.

Hope It's warmer where you are! -Ed-

Yes, his Loar sat at Harry West's for a while, had the Monroe thing on it, broken peghead scroll, and some dodo bound the jagged edge in w-b-w. Had a few cracks in the top when I played it, fine tone on it.

Caleb's a fine mandolin player and the band plays great traditional bluegrass, and writes a lot of original songs and tunes. There's a mando instrumental by Caleb on their "Cold Wind" CD that's got a wonderful Monroe flavor to it. I enjoy their music a great deal and saw them many times in the 4 Corners area before they got signed by Rounder. Back then he was playing a Pag, but I know he was looking for a Fern or Loar.

Open Road is a wonderful traditional bluegras band with great a great sound and good bunch of guys. If you ever have the chance to see them play, do so. Kleb is rock solid with the Monroe style licks and that loar has some bark and bite to it.

    Hey All,

Scott locked the thread I was gonna post this in so I'll try sneakin it in here.

I think that Caleb Roberts (Mando player for Open Road) and Pat Mckenna (Harold on the Red Green Show) may be related! You tell me...

PS Open Road is a wonderful band I will buy their second CD sight unheard - no doubt.

PSS If your American and have never seen Red Green - find a way to see it! The show is one of the many Canadian treasures we stumbled on after moving from the US to Alberta.

Hey EasyEd, you're right! #Caleb and Harold look similar enough to be brothers. #Mostly there's chainsaws in the background at Possum Lodge, but I suspect these guys are all bluegrass pickers too (note that Red Green is a good flat top guitar picker). #OK, let's recite the Lodge Brother motto:

    "I'm a man, but I can change....if I have to...I guess!" #
