Hey... just got this very nice Old Wave, and was giving it a once over last night. It has a kind of gummy feeling on the back of the neck, especially down by the heel... a kind of soft-under-the-fingernail thing going on...

I can't tell if this is gunk/residue or a softening of the finish, and am not sure how aggressively to go after it. One suggestion was to take it off (along with the rest of the finish on the neck) with very fine steel wool. Another was to take a cleaning fluid to it (they didn't remember what kind of fluid, but I presume naphtha?).

Any thoughts/opinions on this?? (I think I'll email Bill about it too and see what he recommends).

    thanks in advance,
    KE

I would call him. If he is working in his shop, he usually picks right up. Also, you don't want to pass up a chance to talk with him. He is a hoot.

Certainly call Bill if you can but I think you'd be safe to clean up with naptha. Naptha won't remove the finish. If you can't find naptha find some gasoline from the 20's.
