Hey guys...I live outside of Knoxville and wanted to know if there are some guys out there that might be interested in a little bluegrass picking. I play with some guys from time to time, but would love to get together with some different people with similar musical tastes. I'm an average mandolin player, and sing a little, too. If anyone's interested, let me know...could be the start of something pretty cool, or at least a way to make some new friends.

I know that during Kaufmans Kamp in June you've got hundreds of great pickers staying at Maryville College for a couple of weeks.Thought the Smokies were full of hot pickers year-round?Thats a great place to live.I attended Steves camp in 04,had a blast!

There is a jam in Sevierville just down the road from Knoxville every tuesday night at the site of "The Dumplin Valley BG festival" If you need directions PM me here. You don't want to miss the Museum of Appalachia in Norris,Tn festival the 2nd weekend of Oct. I'm sure there will be plenty of jamming there and maybe a place to meet some new picking buddies.
I wandered again to my home in the mountains....

Our band has played at the Museum of Appalchia for the past five years, and are scheduled to play there again next month. We like to play on the hill above the Wilson Barn stage throughout the day. I think the music on the hill is better than on the stage at times. We have a real blast during that festival.

I'm in Chattanooga and travel to Knoxvegas for work sometimes. Once I was looking for some jams up there and found a web site that listed a bunch. You might google it to see what you find.

I recall there was one held at a volunteer fire hall out Oak Ridge way.

There used to be a jam there on tuesday nights but Joe and Mitzi quit having it about a year ago. Last i heard there was some discussion about starting it back up. I live near Knoxville (in Corryton) and would be interested in jamming if I can ever find the time. PM or email me and we'll see what we can work out.

There is a loose coalition of players that meets at The Time Warp on Central Ave. in Knoxville the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month, from 8pm until... until we get tired or feel better, whichever comes first. It's called "Music Therapy" but it's not so much a band as a happening. Just about anyone can join in (unless you're toting a saxophone or an electric guitar...all acoustic, please). It's not so much "bluegrass" but lots of old-time music with some other modern stuff tossed in for good measure. Bring a song or two you've been meaning to roll out somewhere, try it out on Music Therapy night. I'm usually there.

I know of at least 3 regular jam events in the Knoxville area:

Rocky Branch Community Center, every Friday at 6pm. Located 4632 Rocky Branch Road, Walland, TN, just off of US 321 South of Maryville.

Music Row, 7:00 pm to 1:00 am, every Monday and Saturday. Located at 2808 E Lamar Alexander Pkwy, Maryville, TN

Bradbury Community Club, every Tuesday and Saturday, 3343 Buttermilk Rd., Roan County just north of US I40

All these places have Bluegrass, Old-time, Gospel, Country.

Music Row is no more. The owners sold it due to health reasons, Rocky Branch is still a go!

Rocky Branch is at 7:00 pm on Friday nights. Last time I was there they had a fiddle room and a bluegrass room. I have a pamphlet that lists Bradbury as every Tuesday and the 3rd Saturday night of the month, no time given. Links below

Thanks very much. I have been so busy that I haven't been able to check these out but I will. In the meantime I have enjoyed the Jazz brunch downtown.
