    Default April Verch music

Hi Everyone! I have recently discovered the Canadian fiddler April Verch. She plays traditional Ottawa Valley, Métis, and Celtic music, and also writes her own compositions in those styles. If anyone has any sheet music for these I’d love to see.

April's very good. I first saw her as a lass of about 14, dancing and playing in the aisles (miked, of course) at an Ottawa 67's hockey game. She and Brian Wicklund put together a Mel Bay book, entitled The American Fiddle Method - Canadian Fiddle Styles. I don't know what tunes are in it though. April has a great deal on the internet, including teaching videos. Check out Brian Hebert too. I think he taught her fiddle. If the links don't work try searching YouTube for "April Verch Band -- Dusty Miller, Fiddle Fingers, & Grizzly Bear".

Here's some Brian Hebert. Warning: wobbly camera, music starts at 2:00. If the links don't work try searching YouTube for "Shades of Dawn - Brian Hebert & Patti Lamoureux."

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."
