George Bingham: "40 Air Anglois pour la flute a un dessus & une basse, Livre Troisième"
Published in Amsterdam by Pierre Mortier, 1704/05
Air # 19
This is an air written by the English music editor and composer George Bingham, originally for flute and basso. Bingham published at least four collections of "English airs", each containing 40 to 50 short pieces. Most of these are credited to various other composers, but the third volume credits the first 16 tunes to Godfried Finger (1655-1730) and the other 24 tunes to Bingham himself -- the frontispiece rather charmingly notes that "As I had only 16 tunes by Mr Finger himself, I was obliged to add 24 more of my own".
This adaptation for two mandocellos has been transposed from the original key of B-flat down nine semitones to D major which brings both parts within first position on cello.
A facsimile of the original book and an urtext transciption are at IMSLP:
