    Default Coming to America

    Folks,

Heading for the US this weekend. Flying into New York for a couple of days, heading north to Woodstock for the guitar show there next weekend and then home via Savannah and Nashville. Time and geography permitting I would be delighted to meeting with fellow mandolin enthusiasts. I will have a new two-point mandolin with me if anyone might be interested.

    Cheers

Graham: I am going to try to be there on Sunday. Will you be there then? The rest of my weekend is packed. If so, I can send you my contact info via email. It would be nice to connect again.

How are you getting from Upstate NY down to Tennessee and Georgia?... If you're driving (thats a LOOONG drive) will you pass through the Atlanta area?... lemme know! If I can meet up with you I'd love to try!

    Have a great trip regardless!

Idk if this is true of Graham, but alot of first time US visitors dont realize just how big this place is. Its quite common for tourists to think they can travel up and down the eastern seaboard in a weekend.

It is possible sure, just alot of time wasted traveling

That 2 point looks fabulous, one of my favorite designs, too bad you aren't coming closer to Wisconsin. Enjoy your travels.

Graham has been over here at least three times and traveled all over the place. He stayed with me for one night quite a few years ago.

Thank you all for the kind warnings, but I come to the US very year or so and have done a lot of driving, sometimes too much! A rental car and a GPS can be a dangerous combination. Flying from New York to Savannah and then to Nashville.

Jim, I will around the Woodstock show all weekend. I have volunteered to help out, so they will have me running around doing stuff. It will be great to catch up. I will have a US cell phone number once I get there, so email or PM me your phone no so we can find each other.

    Cheers

Rental cars are bad enough. I've never tried a GPS.

If you don't mind driving and have the time available, you should cruise on over to Lawrence, Kansas, where the Cafe is, since you spend time here online, anyway

It's a wonderful smaller town and you could also see Kansas City which is near by.
See, Leavenworth, where the famous prison's are and Saint Louis is directly on the way
We would happily pay for a hotel for you, while here
Message me if you would really be interested with actual days/dates and we could go ahead and reserve room for you....

Reid, Thank you for the kind offer, but I won't have the time this trip. I just have two weeks and it is very planned doing research for another book, this time on archtop guitars.

I was at a day-job conference in KC a few years back and met Scott and Mike Black who drove from Laurence and introduced me to Kansas City BBQ at Oklahoma Joe's. There are a bunch of road trips around the US I would like to be able to do over the next few years before stuffing myself into an economy class seat for the flight across the Pacific gets just too uncomfortable and another visit to your part of the country is certainly one of them.

    Cheers

Chocolate flavoured stout doesn't do it for me, I'm afraid. English style ales and bitters are more my speed, and I understand there are some fine vineyards in upstate New York?

There are indeed great vineyards in upstate NY. The Finger Lakes Region is a big wine area but it's several hours west of Woodstock.
The Hudson Valley has some good ones too, so you should be able to find a few to check out on your way south:
