Is this a cure for MAS?
Is this a cure for MAS?
I have an Ellis A5 and F5 and you can't beat the sound and workmanship at any price !
I played that one. The voicing is brighter, not as dry as the Ellis Special I played a few weeks back.

This model may indeed be the end of MAS in my house, and not just for the sound/looks/playability, but due to the amount of coin! Thanks for posting.
Yup. That is the sound and style I want.
It is my new dream mandolin.
It is just the business.
Mandolins: Northfield 5-Bar Artist Model "Old Dog", J Bovier F5 Special, Gibson A-00 (1940)
Fiddles: 1920s Strad copy, 1930s Strad copy, Liu Xi T20, Liu Xi T19+ Dark.
Guitars: Taylor 514c (1995), Gibson Southern Jumbo (1940s), Gibson L-48 (1940s), Les Paul Custom (1978), Fender Strat (Black/RWFB) (1984), Fender Strat (Candy Apple Red/MFB) (1985).
Sitars: Hiren Roy KP (1980s), Naskar (1970s), Naskar (1960s).
Misc: 8 Course Lute (L.K.Brown)
From Mandobar - " The voicing is brighter,...". It has what i term a 'modern' tone,as against the 'throatier' Trad.toned Gibson style mandolins. I'd have to hear my own Ellis played under the same circumstances as the one in the clip to say if it sounded similar, but it does have the 'modern' tone to it,as does my Weber "Fern".
IMHO - With Ellis mandolins ''in general'' - every one's a winner !. Superb workmanship coupled with superb tone & playability, that can only be equaled not 'bettered'. Tone however,is a matter of personal taste,& an Ellis won't suit everybody - but they're still a stunning instrument regardless,

Is a man-bun required to be able to play like that, or is it the instrument?... Cuz my extremely depleted hairline definitely would not allow for the man-bun,... I may need to start saving for that Ellis.
I kid,... awesome instrument played by a very talented musician!
Thanks for sharing
Male pattern baldness has some fixes, but I wouldn't call them a "cure"... but MAS,... definitely not.

Anybody played and Ellis Special along side a Tradition? Thoughts?
There are some mandolins that quell the urge to continue the search.
As for the tone of this Ellis, if you don’t care for Collings’ tone, you won’t be partial to this particular Ellis. The tone is not dry, and there’s a considerable amount of pop to the sound. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, just relating my thoughts on the similarities.

I had a man-bun for about a year. I promise you, it does not contribute to mandolin skills.
During that time, I also played several high-end instruments at Gruhn and Carter Vintage, including an Ellis. It's not the instrument.
I'll let you know if a handlebar moustache does anything for me.
Great mandolin. That thing looks and sounds fantastic. I'm supposed to be immune to MAS???? Help!

Yes, but if I were shopping at this level, I'd want to play everything I could get my hands on. Such a decision would be torturous. In a way I'm glad I'll never be in that position.

Don’t know about a cure, however it would put me in remission. Lp
