Already posted about this in the epic Flatiron thread but wanted to also mention it here.
Last Friday decided to stop at one of my favorite instrument stores (Willie's American Guitars in St. Paul, MN). Now, I didn't need another mandolin, but did want to check out this particular Flatiron. After playing a couple of Finnish tunes, my wife gave me the "you're buying it, aren't you?" look. Well, it did have a lot of volume, and was easy for me to play. So after about 15 minutes was given an offer I couldn't refuse. So, ended up bringing it home. Spent the rest of the night and a lot of Saturday practicing. Which was good, as I had a gig Sunday night.
At the gig, used my 1910 Gibson A for our band's main set, but during the end of the night Allspel (Scandinavian jam session where common tunes are played) decided to try it out. Definitely cut through the half dozen or so fiddles and nyckelharpas. Even loaned it out to my band mate who is the other mandolin player. Other than having difficulty with the neck, he loved it. He's used to his 1909 Gibson A with a really wide neck.
So, now have a new sitting around the house and take anywhere mandolin. Probably means my Big Muddy will end up in the classifieds in the near future. But can't justify having 2 flat tops right now.
Oh, and pics or it didn't happen -
