    Default Chris Thile's new pick

He seems to have switched (for the time being) to something other than Bluechip / Wegen. You can see it in this video at 1:39:25 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FWCH_h8SEuo&t=3690s anyone recognize the pick?

Maybe his endorsement deal with Bluechip ran out and he is shopping for a new deal?

What he uses means nothing to me, as I will never sound like him. I just want a pick that sounds good to me.

    Carry on.

Definitely looks like a Casein pick. Redbear, EML, Manouche Picks, and several others are making them. I have a couple from EML and they're my current favorite.

A truly vintage instrument deserves a truly vintage shell pick, just as very good contemporary mandolin and like pick go together. CT may be simply digging deeper into the nuances of what makes a classic tick...someday he may discover Monel strings, too -- if he hasn't already. Tony Rice understands this very well. 'Nuff said.

IMO, too light colored to be "real". Appears to be casein. To my non expert eye, looks like something from Hense.

Interesting, as I've also been experimenting with some the casein picks in my stash. Don't think Chris is trying to sound like me. But maybe he can if he works on it more<G>.

Could be something else, but something real close to that is my guess.

Indeed, it looks like casein! Great, now I can buy one from each manufacturer and see which one makes me sound like Thile

thanks for mentioning that! I've been working on right hand and am glad I went back to look. I like being a bit of a fan boy, knowing full well I'll never sound like that. It's interesting to reflect on what he must think over to pick one pick or another pick, etc. No doubt he's also obsessed over pick grip, etc.

I really do think most of what I want to improve on is my right hand; however and would search out his pick if we knew. I do like the bird-dogging of this thread!

To me the coolest thing here is not the pick but how he holds it. He shows a lot of pick, yes. Also looks like it’s flopping around like crazy in a couple of those pictures. I know he says to hold it loose. This really brings that home.
