Default Ideas for a Hymn Project

    Hi Friends,

I have a small hobby recording studio set up in my basement and would like to record a collection of traditional hymns. I'll play mandolin and guitar and probably ask some friends to help on bass, fiddle, etc.

    Question:

What are your favorite hymns that are in the public domain?

To get things started, I'm thinking about recording "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "Poor Wayfaring Stranger," "Just a Closer Walk," etc.

    What others should I include?

    Thanks!

Have a listen to Brad Paisley’s version of What A Friend We Have In Jesus. Amazing guitar playing.

We're doing Be Thou My Vision, Come Thou Fount, and Come, thou Long-Expected Jesus as a medley because they all have a similar Celtic feeling.

Softly and Tenderly can be done beautifully. Heaven's Jubilee, while perhaps not as well known, gives you a chance to speed it up a little if you want.

My faves are I'll Fly Away and I am Weary Let Me Rest, but I have no idea if they are public domain or not. Oh, and Angel Band.
