Default Outer Banks Blugrass October 3-6

Anyone making it to the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival? October 3rd to 6th, 2018 at Roanoke Island Festival Park, Manteo, NC. We plan on being there for Friday and Saturday. Steeldrivers will be the closing act Saturday night.

We had planned on getting away Sunday. Then we found out some friends of ours from Baltimore, The Dirty Grass Players, were playing a few miles up the road in Duck, NC at the Duck, NC Jazz Fest on Sunday. That should be interesting. I just sold their mandolin player a mandolin and can't wait to see it played by a true professional.

I hope all is going well for the festival after all the hurricane damage on the NC coast.

I called the realtor in Kitty Hawk that we used to rent a house. The Outer Banks pretty much escaped that damage as the the Hurricane turned SW after barely brushing the banks. The woman I spoke to in Kitty Hawk said her power didn't even go out. That festival will be moving to the month of May, from October for 2019 and beyond. Likely due to the possibility of hurricane related issues.

We took in Friday and Saturday at this festival. Had a wonderful time. This is a well organized festival. Everything runs like clockwork as to the band scheduling. The sound system is second to none. It is so well done and the instruments and voices are so well balanced. They had a great mix of both traditional and progressive groups on the bill also. The Barefoot Movement put on a great show from about 4:00 to 5:15 Saturday afternoon. Great musicians and wonderful voices. Their female lead singer and fiddler, Noah Wall is a real talent. Just a terrific musician with a powerful voice with amazing range.

We’ve followed The Barefoot Movement for a while now and have seen them perform three or four times. A very good group, and Noah is outstanding. Moving the festival to May will eliminate some potential weather issues, but I wonder if moving it so close to the Ocracoke Festival the first weekend in June will hurt either of the two festivals?
