    Thanks Pete, great to have this monthly challenge back !

    Love the chord changes on Marie - particularly the use diminished and augmented chords and the sweet walk downs and walk ups.

    Love the Lionel Hampton and Charlie Christian solos on Poor Butterfly - indeed what Cannonball Adderley and Paul Desmond make of it.

    The Birth of the Blues is one of those tunes where I can hear all sorts of nice lines and chord changes but really struggle with the kitsch lyrics and indeed the original (pre jazzed-up) performances. Sadly that's my first reaction to a good few well established jazz standards - Someday My Prince Will Come, Cherokee, Hello Young Lovers and Softly as in a Morning Sunrise are good instances. I think that the problem with me rather than with the songs.
