Default A Cantigas lute I just finished

Here's my latest build, for a customer in Sweden. It's an early medieval lute based on illustrations from the Cantigas de Santa Maria from Spain, around 1280. I've added the two illustrations in question below my instrument, and you can read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantigas_de_Santa_Maria

Beautiful work! The angle of the tuners seems less steep in your copy? Probably for good reason - the artist's work maybe an exaggerated impressionist view I suppose?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by 'steep' here? Do you mean the neck/pegbox joint angle? There were, as you say, some compromises, as for instance, perspective was not invented in European art until the renaissance, so everything looks a bit 'flat' and you have to make judgements.

You get a beautiful finish on your instruments, Jo.

    Very nice, as always.

What kind of mould/form do use when making the bowls?

Thanks! I use shellac. I mix it very thin and apply multiple coats over a period of several days.

Sorry, but too late! It's already been sent off the customer in Sweden. Maybe he'll do a sound sample...
