Once again, I recommend a fashionable 4-foot chartreuse feather boa casually draped over the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece, flowing downward and to catch the wind on outdoor stages -- I guarantee nobody will ever notice the point! And, think of the savings!

My bet is it was damaged and instead of rebuilding the point, it was truncated
Similar to a mandolin missing its peghead scroll -- it just doesn't look right. I'm often amused when I see an expensive car being driven around with multiple dents on multiple fenders/corners -- like the owner either doesn't have insurance or simply doesn't care.....
I've either seen this mandolin but I know I've seen this done before, I wonder if this was a Gibson practice for repair?
I like how the picture of the back has the truncated point buried in the case, below the level of the case...It's not there, you can't se it, lalalala
Twice, I read "truncated", way too nice of word, IMHO..........butchered, hacked up, etc.? Otherwise, a really nice old mandolin!

A whole new way to miss the point!
Emando.com: More than you wanted to know about electric mandolins.

I'm guessing that it was truncated because that lower point was digging into a previous owner's leg when being played. I believe this mandolin was advertised here in the MC classifieds a couple of times.

My guess is that the top was refinished maybe even as late as the 1960s. Too red in parts. Yes, the asking price is optimistic.
