Not to hijack, love the mandos - but, wow, persimmons already! Early tree, I reckon (like everything else, there is variation in ripening across the species and range). The trees I track and harvest around here (Prince William County, VA) won't start turning color for a few weeks yet. And I don't wait for the first frost, if the fruit is soft it is ripe.

I know, everything this season has come and gone early. Same thing in years past, the persimmons usually don't happen until late fall. All my garden items came in early and went out fast, and I tend to plant late as I like things still growing and available until first frost. I luckily still have green tomatoes, okra, but everything else is winter squash.

I've been extremely fortunate thru the years to have some very fine playing/sounding mandolins come thru my hands. I will tell you that these 2 Webers are simply the best mandos I've owned, for my style of playing. I'm assuming you were talking about the Yellowstone(but the little Oval hole Aspen is a wonder, really). Dennis at Themandolinstore had this late into winter on his website. I wasn't in a position to even think about buying it, but I sure liked how it looked and how Dennis had it appointed(scooped florida, fern inlay, tobacco burst). Dennis made me an excellent offer, I put up for sale my one mandolin, it sold quickly, and I was able to get this. It has the most melodic tone, yet is still powerful, and plays so easy. I'm impressed with it every time I pick it up.
Great family photo of mandolins-- nice! I will try to get this accomplished and post. Thanks Daryl!
I am hard pressed to think of ever hearing anything bad about Webers. I am much more of a 'melodic' player than someone who 'chords' or 'chops' - so I can fully appreciate your above description. I have often said that if someday I can get work as a mandolin player, I will buy a Weber.
Thanks for sharing - and enjoy!
That's a handsome family you've got there Daryl! Take 'em out for ice cream or bowling excursions ever?
