Thread: Recommendations for 2019?

    Default Recommendations for 2019?

Looking for recommendations for a great bluegrass camp/workshop to attend next year. Would like to plan ahead to take time off. Wide open to suggestions, but would prefer bluegrass-oriented (maybe some swing/jazz thrown in for good measure) and intermediate to advanced level instruction. I know there are a lot of options, so tell me about great experiences you've had at recent camps. Thanks!

I'm looking to attend the one that's just an hour south of Wichita next year, I believe its the Walnut Valley Festival.
I live in southwest Florida so it's a commitment for me,

The Rockygrass Academy in Lyons, CO is a lot of fun in a beautiful setting. Don't know that they've announced instructors for next year, but they're always really good - this year was Sierra Hull, Don Julin, and John Reischmann. There's also a mandolin building class. Spots usually sell out immediately, there's a lottery in November.

River of the West announced Paul Glasse, Emory Lester, Mike Compton and Brian Oberlin for next June. Plenty of swing and bluegrass there.

Winfield is THE bluegrass festival! Always a good time, but I'm thinking of something a bit more small format instruction oriented.

I attended two great camps this year. The Swannanoa gathering in Asheville, nc was great. Variety of instrument programs.
Alan bibey’s Camp is great for mandolin players, great jams, great instructors. Highly receommend Bibey’s camp if you’re a mandolin player.

Nimble Fingers in Sorrento, BC at the end of August. Wonderful camp and John Reischman is usually one of the mandolin instructors.

Emory will not be at next year's ROW. Although he is teaching at my Great Lakes Mandolin Camp in Michigan next weekend.
