Thread: Name that tune?

    Default Name that tune?

So the tune they are demoing these mandos with is an ear worm and I can’t place it.

Can anybody help me figure out the name of it?

    Sidebar:

All those mandolins sounded pretty much the same to me; a couple were a little brighter, but perhaps that was the brand/gauges or age of the strings that were on them. The guy should have played the tune at several different volume levels on each instrument to test how they react (or not) to attack.

You would get a lot more variation in sound if you had a dozen different pickers play the same tune on the same mandolin. At least 50% (or more) of the sound in is the hands of the player. And where were the oval/round holes?

Ok--so can you suggest better pieces to play to demo a variety of instruments like this? Let's say you have a 3-6 minute max per instrument, what would you want to hear?

I want to hear each string individually, after that I really don't care about a tune. Most mandolins sound good on all but the G string so I want to hear emphasis on the G, as the sound of that string is, while not the most important, equally important to all else. Most demo's neglect it or only play it in a chop. I would like to hear Ashoken Farewell for a tune. If uses all the strings and is slow enough to hear what they sound like individually and against each other as the tune walks up from the G to the E string.
