Default Awesome deal! New Eastman MD-305 for $192.48

I was in Music & Arts in Town & Country, MO today to buy a bass stand for my son.

I saw an Eastman MD-305 on the wall at an incredible price and played it for about an hour. I almost bought it to resell and make $200, but decided instead to put this out here to help someone get a great mandolin at an exceptional price.

The setup is spot on with excellent intonation and perfect action. Bridge is well fit and it needs nothing. Even comes with the solid cast tailpiece. Tuners work well.
The tone is great with a clear even sound on all strings. Lively top and back. Good bark and very nice clarity.

If you are in the market for a great intermediate instrument at an unbelievable price, I'd give them a call. (636) 527-7354
These are hard to find new for less than $479.
You'll likely need to pay shipping. Or Tax if you're local to St Louis.

Tag says LA-305 (which is what these were labeled for M&A). Label inside the instrument says MD-305.

Let us know if you pick it up.
    Enjoy!
    Al

A dagger in my heart. It will surely be gone long before I get the money together by the end of the week.

Oh well, I'm currently negotiating one locally now.

He'll outgrow that bass stand pretty soon, and you'll need something taller to stand him up in.

Oh by the way, sick price on that MD 305.

My persistence paid off, and Steven there was super nice and helpful to get it done for me.

Got here today, it is a nice one. My son is going to be thrilled.

Sweet! So glad that it went to your son. Great deal on a very nice and well setup mandolin.

Yeah, I can't quite figure out the tailpiece upgrade on a 305 at that price.

Are you for or against it? I'm considering a cast tailpiece for my 305.

Oh it is fantastic... just an upgrade for a 305 that usually come with the stamped tailpiece.

They are standard now, which is why I'm considering it.

For what it is worth, I've put one of these on another Eastman 305 and they are very nice for the money.

That tailpiece will work fine, however the mounting holes do not match up to a standard stamped tailpiece. So you would have to fill the screw holes from the existing tailpiece and drill new holes for the screws on the new tailpiece. The endpin location may also not quite match up.

Technically I don't actually need an endpin since I never use a strap. As for the screw holes, I had the tailpiece replaced on another mandolin, and since the plate covered the old holes, I had them leave it alone. If that happens here, I expect to do the same. Just to ask though, is there a reasonably priced cast tailpiece that might be a match for the old holes?

It depends on what you consider reasonable. Your best bet is an Allen cast tailpiece. Usually around $90-$100.
The TR1, TR2, TR3 or AR2 will fit the standard hole locations

If you get one that lines up, you can probably swap it out yourself without trouble.

That's not completely out of line for an exact replacement, especially if I can save a few bucks by doing it myself. I'll have to hold off until December, but I can wait to do it right. Thanks for the tip.

Honestly, The stamped tailpiece on my Eastman MD315 is doing a fine job! It might be for you because I don't completely understand your exact situation, but for me it's not worth the money for a small change. But, if a cast tailpiece makes you happier when playing and gets you to play more and be excited about it then go for it! Just my little bit of inexperienced-experience.
Just me and my Eastman MD315!
    And we're hungry to learn
