...seen one of these? I didn't know these even existed. If it wasn't so expensive, I might have grabbed it just to play with.

I have not seen one before, but it does look cool and like I might spend a bunch of time messing with it trying to find a way to fit it into a recording...but you are right, it looks too expensive for that.

I have a Johnson resonator ukulele, with an engraved, chrome-plated brass body, otherwise quite similar to the Gretsch. Bought it on eBay a decade ago, new, for about $240.

These are the Chinese-made instruments -- ukuleles and mandolins -- with the "biscuit" bridge and small resonator cone. They make a lot of noise; whether you like that noise or not, is a matter of taste.

I've never seen one either! That's cool!

Here's an article about many resonator ukes currently on the market. As noted in the article current street price for the Gretsch is $50 less than the craiglist seller is firmly asking. I have played the Kala one and it is fun assuming you want to play uke.

I’m a uke fan. I’ve played a couple reso ukes, not all by any means. The Gretsch and a Kala at least. They did not appeal to my ears. But I know couple folks that wield them. Myself I’d take a banjolele if I needed more volume.

    Very interesting.

I would definitely snatch it up in the $100 price range . . . but at $300, I'll pass.

Check out what Del Rey can do with her full-metal resonator uke. She is awesome, and that thing is a banjo tamer.

I had a Republic resonator uke that I bought off CL in Nashville for about $150. I strung it with the Aquila strings that allow you to tune it in 5ths. It was fun and loud, but I restrung it and gave it to my daughter who plays uke. She loves it.
It ain't gotta be perfect, as long as it's perfect enough!

Nice. Being a little old man musician, I have an appreciation of little old lady musicians.
