Default Cases: A in an F

Other than artistic objections is there any practical downside to putting an A style in an F style case?
More room for a case humidifier is a positive for me.

It breaks all the rules, it's not allowed.

Actually, there is no reason not to. Have at it.

The only downside I can think of is that it is more likely to be stolen.

You could keep it in a banjo case if you really want to make sure that nobody will steal it.

Whatever snugly holds the body. If there's additional "scroll room," so what?

My Ellis "A" style resides in a Travelite case made to fit an F5 style mandolin. It's snug fitting & well protected in everyday usage. I also use it to carry either of my 2 F5 styles when i 'play out',

You'll be looked down on at the annual case festival held in Newark each year. The purists are very harsh in their criticism.

I think if you're investing in a high end case like a hoffee or Calton, it might be in your best interest to get an F case. You never know when MAS might strike and you find yourself wanting a scroll...

OCD audience members like myself will feel a little itchy when you take it out.

I have an old Calton and a Hiscox case, both for F-styles and I think they work fine for my A-styles.

If I were getting a really nice case, I think I would want the A-style case. The slightly decreased size and the sleekly symmetrical profile really appeals to me, so if I were to get a vintage collings case (or something closely shaped like that) it would be worth it.
