Thread: Mandolin Set Up Recommendations

    Default Mandolin Set Up Recommendations

I've got a really nice sounding hand-built F5 from a great builder, and just know the setup can be improved on for better playability and sound.

Would anyone happen to have some recommendations for who performs excellent setup work? Location doesn't matter.

    Thank you
    Chris

Jerry Rosa at Rosa String Workd in Missouri is a good start. You can watch him perform his magic on YouTube. Lotsa people ship their instruments to him.

Huge fan of Jerry Rosa's videos, but I'm a bigger fan of communicating what I want with a good luthier, and of not shipping to and from different climate zones. I'm sure there must be someone close who would be excellent.

For instance, you might pick harder than average and need higher action than normal, or play soft with hand issues that would do better with a very low action.

Why not contact that great builder and see if he/she would do the tweaks for you? Most instrument makers want their instruments playing their best out in the real world. They might not even charge you, except for return shipping.

I would communicate with the great builder you described that built this mandolin and have him/her make adjustments that you want !
