Default DI box for live performance

We installed a nice k&k pickup in my wife's Eastman 815 and am now thinking we need to make sure she has a DI for live shows. I currently use a k&k DI for my guitar but would like something that works well out of the box and is as switch and knob free as possible for our use. Light and simple is what I am hoping for. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

The RedEye Fire Eye is as simple and good sounding as you can get. I have used K&K, Fishman, Orhcid, and have been using the RedEye for the last couple years. Lots of headroom, great sound, and extremely simple with a boost switch for leads.

+1 for the RedEye. You get a pre-amp, boost, and DI in a small, well built, and simple unit. You can get a Facebook discount through Shoreline Music and bring the price down to around $165.

Worth noting that RedEye also has the correct input impedance for K&K. Not all pre-amps and DIs do.

Congratulations. Your search has ended. The Red-Eye is your answer. I have the twin so I can switch to the unused channel for silent tuning. You can accomplish the same with the single unit if you connect a stomp box tuner to the effects loop. I like a clip-on Poly Tune me-self thus the Twin for me.

A DI * steps down to a Microphone level to feed a house board with Mic Channels , Right?

*Direct Input, not to be confused with a PreAmp....

A redeye is technically not a preamp and traditional sense of the word is more like a DI with a couple of features on it is really what the person above needs

Hold on a minute. I too was a devotee of FireEye, absolutely loved it. I haven't plugged it in since getting my SunnAudio Stage 1 Di. Sonicly richer than a FireEye and designed by guys with studio gear background, pretty much as simple as you can get and no transformer.

They built me a custom Di using their blender DI circuit, which I donated to an open mic so we could run two instruments through one unit. I haven't used my RedEye since. I missed having one at home so bought a Stage 1 DI to have handy. Great new company.

If you want a RedEye, you know where to find me.

I’m intrigued indeed but it looks like the sunn audio does not have a boost switch which is mandatory for me

I vote for the Tone Dexter by AudioSprockets. This is a great unit as I use it for guitar and mandolin.

I purchased the red eye and am looking forward to receiving it. Thanks for the info!
By the way, would this make a good 16th anniversary present?

Tonedexter. The only di any of us should be using. It takes your di signal, and transforms it to match the mic sound of your mandolin. Sorry you didn't wait long enough to get some tonedexter replies. It really is so much more than a "di".

When I first saw the Tonedexter, I wondered if I could somehow sample a Lloyd Loar, load the file in the Tonedexter, and have it play over my Eastman 305.
