I'm not as bad as I used to be (I mentioned in another thread that some things are easy now, and I go back and play those when I'm getting frustrated it something new I'm working on, used to be NOTHING was easy!) And VERY RARELY I will have a day when everything comes together and I can play an entire piece without any hesitation, and tremolo is actually getting better, but I am nowhere near good - just better than I used to be.

As i did on banjo 50+ years ago when i started playing,i used recordings &/or I/net radio / YouTube as a source for pick-along tunes.
Two tunes that i wanted to learn were ''8th of February'' by John Reischman & ''Rebecca'' by Herschel Sizemore. I learned both bit by bit, & i thought i'd pretty well 'arrived' when i could play ''8th of February'' as close to JR as i could manage after about 5 years. However, that still doesn't make me a 'good' mandolin player, but it was a huge step in the right direction & i've added a few more steps since,
    Ivan
    Weber F-5 'Fern'.
    Lebeda F-5 "Special".
    Stelling Bellflower BANJO
    Tokai - 'Tele-alike'.
    Ellis DeLuxe "A" style.

I may never get there, but it is all about the journey, isn't it?

Making the journey a pleasant one is essential (for you, if not for others)
the world is better off without bad ideas, good ideas are better off without the world

Starting my journey at 64 years young with no or very little musical talent I have to think about the emphasis on the journey instead of the end ! Now at 71 The end may come all too soon !
