Sierra and Molly are great, but Billy Strings is just a fantastic soloist. On another level.
Like it a lot! So much talent on that stage. The harmonic suppressor (ahem, price tag) hanging on the fiddle cracked me up

Great performance -- Thanks for posting that!!
I would say Billy Strings more then held up his end though....

Due to current budgetary restrictions the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off -- sorry about the inconvenience.
Music is collaborative, not competitive. I think they supported each other very tastefully.
Sierra is awesome and I'd say has the edge on Billy as a songwriter, but in terms of stage presence and the ability to melt faces it is really hard to get on Billy's level.
Billy either has a better guitar rig or better rapport with the sound person. He had more volume and cleaner tone.
That's not to say who was better...it was one factor in his advantage.

He even pointed to Sierra during one solo to alert the sound person to her lack of volume. We have a small club in Annapolis called the Ram's Head on Stage. Might hold 200 people. Not certain who does the sound but it's always done very well. Just saw the Hillbenders there. We've seen Billy Strings, Jeff Austin, Sierra Hull, Travelin McCoury's, Seldom Scene, Dirty Grass Players, and the sound is always very well balanced and for the most part soloists are always easily heard.

Now that is a performance I would have liked to see.
I’m not much of a bluegrass fan but I did see Billly Strings perform last month in WV and that boy can sure pick and entertain.

Don't see anything here that could be close to Billy "meeting his match." If anything, just the opposite. You couldn't even hear Sierra (or Molly, for that matter). Just some great musicians trading licks.
I agree with Barry. This was collaborative, not competitive, as music should be.

totally agree the sound for Sierra and Molly seemed off.
as I watched this, the first thought I had was that neither Sierra or Molly really wanted to be there. doesn't matter of course what I think.
B Strings is an amazing player for sure, and he can play mandolin, banjo, and who knows what else, drives the music hard and fast, works a crowd(and his band) for sure. What I meant about him meeting his match, and there was no intent of any kind in either direction regarding that comment-simply that Sierra kept up with him on that second round no matter what he threw at her.
I was amazed at the blistering pace, clean hits, and spontaneity of that exchange.
seems like these younger players are taking the music to a whole other level these days.

Welcome to the internet.there was no intent of any kind in either direction regarding that comment-
In watching it again, the volume differences were really pronounced, but it impressed me how quiet the other players got when Molly was soloing. Great musical presence, respect for the other pickers, and EARS!!
