    Default a braided string strap

    i make my own mando straps by braiding butcher's string. cost? maybe a few bucks if ya don't already have the string, and about 20 minutes time. does it work well? heck yeah. try one.

    I've made a bunch of braided straps, but I always end up going back to leather.

    What kind of mando is that? Looks nice.

    i like the super suppleness of a string braid. anyhoo, that's and oregon kim breedlove built quartz FF. lovely tone and playability.

    That's a great idea! I bet the average household has other long thin materials laying around for braiding. I think for my next mandolin strap I will look at the local Goodwill for a long narrow cloth belt to modify. I have done that before with ukuleles.

    I just took 50 inches of paracord, tied a slipknot at one end and made a loop to a retraced figure eight knot (much easier than it sounds) at the other. It's worked well for a year now. No issues.

    that's well and good and more than does the job and only takes but seconds.

    however, the results don't look as good (to me) as a string braided mando strap.

    I have an American ff for my gigging mandolin. Looks identical to your quartz.

    I have a very long multi-colored boot string Id guess, on one mandolin.
